Weekly Update - Welcome Cooper Charley Handley

Cooper Charley Handley
March 7, 2012
8lbs 4 oz   and 21.5 in!!!

Tuesday night, we thought we would go out for a "last supper" before the big induction (the following morning).  We ended up at Outback with Nana, and uncle Dillon/kids.  All evening, my contractions were still consistently 10 minutes apart but they weren't getting any stronger so I didn't pay too much attention.  Upon pulling up to the restaurant though, I noticed that my last few were around 5 minutes apart so I started timing them.  Sure enough, by the time our food had arrived my contractions were exactly 5 minutes apart and seemed to be getting slightly stronger.  I didn't want to panic but I was uncomfortable enough that   Shane and I decided to leave and head home to shower/pack up (just in case).
We took our time at home and didn't want to rush off to the hospital just yet.  Since I was being induced in 10 hours anyway, we weren't in a huge hurry.  Around 9pm, Shane had dozed off while I was taking care of some last minute things so I decided to go ahead and see if I could take a nap.  I woke up 3 or 4 times from being uncomfortable during contractions, but they still weren't strong enough that I felt the need to head to the hospital.  Before we knew it, our alarms were going off on our phones that it was 4am and time to head to the hospital for induction!!
Upon arrival, the nurses told us that they were pretty full and we were lucky to be getting our own room!  Around an hour after getting settled into our room, a nurse came in and notified us that they had a few emergency deliveries and we may need to delay our induction a few hours.  Shane and I were fine with hanging out and relaxing a bit, so we weren't bothered with the news.  At 10am I was hooked up to a low-dose pitocin iv to pick up the contractions while we waited for the doctor to become available.  At 10:30 the doctor came in and decided it was time to break my water (I was dilated to 3cm).
My contractions had started picking up and were beginning to get more and more uncomfortable so I decided to ask for the epidural.  By the time the Anesthesiologist arrived (12:00pm), my contractions were pretty painful!!!  Within 15-20 min though, I was feeling great again :)  At 2:00 the nurse checked me and found that I was dilated to 9cm and said we could begin "practice" pushing.  Apparently my "practice" pushes were pretty awesome because she said I needed to STOP or we would have a baby without the doctor!  At 2:35 Dr. Hooker arrived and we began pushing.  Three pushes later, we had our little guy.  At 2:39, Cooper Charley Handley was born! :)
The nurses immediately commented on how BIG our little baby boy was.  They were also talking about how great his color was and one nurse even said "he's the pinkest baby I've ever seen"!! LOL
Cooper seemed to be a very calm/relaxed baby just like his big sister was when she was born.  After the nurses stopped messing with him, he just looked around and stayed really quiet.
More pictures to come!
