11 Week Update - Using Hands

11 Week Picture

Milestones:

Head Control:  Addie has amazing control over her neck muscles.  She's been able to hold her head steady/upright for over a month now.  She follows things around the room not only with her eyes, but by moving her head too.  If Shane or I get up and walk away from her, she will strain to find out where we went in the room.  Within the last week or so, she's been making a motion like she's trying to sit up by lifting her head.  Specifically, when laying on her back or propped up on a pillow, Addie will lift her head a few inches forward.  We know that sitting up on her own is still quite a ways off, but it's neat to see her try! :)

Hands:  Of course exploring the hands is probably one of the neatest things for a baby at this stage.  I mentioned in our previous post that Addie will make herself cross-eyed trying to look at her hands.  Now, it seems like she's trying to touch things more.  If Shane or I put our face close to her, she will sometimes lift her hands up to grab at our face.  If her pacifier falls out, she will nudge it with the backside of her hand trying to get it back in.  I don't know if she realizes that she's doing it, but she has actually gotten it back in on a few occasions!
Shane said that he saw Addison suck her thumb for the first time too.  UH OH!!  She always puts her hands in her mouth and several times has sucked on her fists or fingers, but he said it was just the thumb this time.  I won't be too paranoid about it this early, but if she's doing it when she's 10....we might have a problem! Ha ha

10 Week Update - First Immunizations

10 Week Picture

Milestones:

First Wedding:  On Saturday (the 10th) Addison attended her first Wedding and Reception.  The night before, we went out and found a really cute pink polka dot dress just for the occasion (see picture above).  The bride (my best friend) actually went with us to pick it out.  Addison looked sooo cute!  The photographer took lots of pictures that we will post later once they are available.

First immunizations :(   Tuesday of this week was Addie's 2 month well baby appointment.  It was supposed to be closer to turning 8 weeks old but there was a mixup in scheduling.  Anywho... Addison received her immunizations at this appointment.  We had the pacifier in Addie's mouth when the first shot went into her leg.  The paci immediatly was spit out, but no crying.  Then on the second shot, her eyes got really big and her arms/legs extended out like she was startled, and she made a SHREEEK noise with a pouty face.  On the third, and final shot, she began to cry.  After getting the okay from the nurse, I immediately picked Addison up and cuddled her.  She seemed to pout a little more, but she was much happier!  Side effects have been minimal.  From the appointment until today, her temperature has gone up and down but really nothing serious.  She's been a bit fussier than normal, but really not too bad.  I'm just glad the appointment is over and she won't be receiving shots again for another two months!!

LEGS:  Addie has always had very long and STRONG legs.  Her big thing lately is to kick, kick, KICK!  It seems like those legs are always moving!  Daddy says, "sometimes those kicks actually hurt"! ha ha  It's really cute to sit and watch her in action.

Growing At Addie's Well Baby appointment this week, she was measured/weighed.  She is above 90% in EVERY category!!!  Her length, weight, and head circum. are all in the 90th percentile!  Again, the doctor reassured us that the weight and head are high because of her length and there is nothing to be concerned about.  In fact, the doctor said she is impressed with her growth and said to keep it up!!

Hands:  It seems like Addison is really interested in her hands lately.  She will make fists and stare at them for several minutes.  Often, she will make herself cross-eyed trying to look at them.  What's even funnier is when the burp cloth is over her chest and her hands get trapped under it... it's like she can't figure out where they went!

9 Week Update - 2 Months

9 Week Picture

Its amazing how much fun a 9 week old can really be.  Shane and I are enjoying every second of it.  Addison loves giggle time with mommy and daddy.  Usually we will prop her up on a pillow and face her.  All we have to do is make faces and talk to her and she gets the greatest kick out of it!  She will open her mouth really big like she's trying to talk and then let out a HUGE smile... and her little legs will kick nonstop in excitement.  I will try to get a video of her on here in the next week or so.

Milestones:

The POO and PEE of it all:  Everyone tells you that you'll go through diapers like Obama goes through money, but you're never really prepared for how many you actually go through.  Currently, we are burning through about 80-100 per week.  Some days are much heavier than others, but it seems like every time we turn around, we're having to add diapers to the Wal-Mart list. PHEW!

Sleeping:  My cousin gave me a book called "the sleep solution".  The writer claims to be able to train your baby to sleep 12 hours a night.  Shane and I have decided to give it a whirl despite Addie's already great sleep schedule (6-9 hrs per night broken up by only one feeding).  We just started step one this week, which is, get baby to eat 6 oz. every 4 hours during the day without "snacks" in between.  Before this week, she was eating about 4-4.5oz. at each feeding in addition to several "snacks" in the afternoon.  So far this week, the most she has eaten in one sitting is 5.25oz and she doesn't quite seem ready to break the snacking in the late afternoons.  It's a work in progress, but we'll keep you posted as to how it's working.

Growing:  Addison has outgrown so many of her clothes!  In the beginning, we had more clothes than we knew what to do with.  Every week though, we have to "retire" several outfits that don't fit anymore.  Also... someone needs to SLAP the clothes manufacturers!  We've got 6 month outfits that are the same size as the newborn clothes!  I've seen "0-3mo." outfits that would fit a potato and "0-3mo." outfits that would fit a toddler!  What's the deal???

8 Week Update - Nana Visiting

8 Week Picture

Can't believe she's TWO MONTHS OLD!!   Not too much has happened in the last week.  Nana (Kristin's mom) came to visit for a few days as well as cousins Blake and Avryl.  It's cute seeing our nieces and nephews interact with Addison.  Avryl likes to tickle her feet to see how she'll react.  Addie doesn't seem to mind and usually just kicks in response.

This weekend will be the 4th of July.  Usually we celebrate with family/friends but we're going to have a pretty low key holiday this year.  Addie is still too little to enjoy the fireworks, so we decided to just cook out and watch them from the dock or the house.
