Weekly Update - Cooper 4 Months!

Week of July 13, 2012

All about Addie

A new girl:  Having tubes put in her ears seems to have already paid off!  Addison sleeps better, eats better, and is all around a happier girl!  Most of all, we haven't had to pay even one visit to the doctor since!  The most traumatizing experience since the tubes have been the drops we have to put in her ear for the first 5-7 days after surgery.  Addison did NOT like the drops and would fight us as hard as possible to keep us from administering them.

Words and sentences:  I love listening to her ever expanding vocabulary.  The cutest is that recently Addison has developed the sense to talk in sentences.  Although her sentences are usually babble followed by her point.  For example, "ma ma, blah blah blah blah, car"..... or "da da, blah blah blah blah outside", it's so very cute to listen to her!  Other cute sayings:
"I'll help mama" - She loves to help out and if I ask, she gets very excited!  She will help throw diapers away, help load the dish washer, etc.
"It's delicious" or "mmm, delicious" - Nana started this and Addison picked up on it quickly.
"aww, poor_____" - I don't know where this came from, but she says it in many situations.  One example is when she asked me one day where dada was and I told her he's at work.  Her reply was "awwww, poor dada".  Another example is when she had eaten all of her food one day and asked where'd it go and I replied it's all gone because you ate it.  Her reply was "awww, poor food".  When Mickey mouse cartoons are over she will ask where Mickey went and I will reply that he's all gone, and of course her reply will be "awww, Poor Mickey".  Too funny!
"Not___" - Addie will confirm when something is "this and not that".  For example, after I correct her when she calls milk, juice, she will reiterate "milk....not Juice".  Another example is if we tell her she can't have something (cookies, candy, etc.) she will say "no cookies".

Clean Up:  Addison gets excited about cleaning up.  We sing a song "clean-up, clean-up, every-body, every-where, clean-up, clean-up, everybody do your share".  Addie will look all around the room for more toys to put in the bins and won't stop until they're all away.  A clean toy room makes mommy a happy one!

All about Cooper

4 Months!:  Cooper turned 4 months old on Saturday the 7th.

Still Teething:  Cooper has been drooling for months now and we still haven't seen any teeth poke through.  Some days are worse than others and he will drench his shirts and sleeves.  Other days it's like he just stops teething.  He doesn't seem too irritable from the teething either way though as long as he's got a paci or his hands to chew on.

Reaching for toys:  Cooper has started reaching for toys.  It's not an obvious reach, but if you watch him on his play mat and there is a toy within reach, he will moves his arms/hands in a way that he is trying to get the object.

Pulling up:  Cooper gets better every week about pulling himself up when we hold his hands.  If he is in laying position and we hold his hands and help him pull, he can go from laying to standing position! What a strong little guy!

Weekly Update - Tubes in Ears

Week Of July 6, 2012

Addie's Weekly Photo

Cooper's Weekly Photo

We had a HUGE week!!  Not only was this week Addie's surgery for tubes (ear tubes), Kristin's cousin Angela came for a visit with her four kids to celebrate the 4th of July.  Cooper and Addie loved all of the attention and playmates.  We swam, jumped on the trampoline, went to Miner Mikes, and watched fireworks.  Needless to say, the kids were worn out by the end of our fun-filled week!!  What a blast!

All about Addie

Tubes:  This week was Addie's big hospital visit.  We were scheduled to be at the hospital by 6am on Friday.  Things went smoothly for the most part.  Addison wasn't too excited about putting the hospital gown on but once we turned mickey on the TV in her hospital room, she was fine.  When the doctor came in to get her after surgery, he said she did really well coming in to her surgery room and was fine until the put the gas mask on and he said she wasn't too excited :(  Other than that, the doctor said Addison did really well and the surgery went as planned.  Once we got her back into her recovery room, she was disoriented and pretty upset.  We could tell that her ears were bothering her quite a bit and she had frequent crying fits.  Once she calmed down and passed out on Shane's chest, we took her home where she slept for three more hours.  Will keep updates on her recovery.

Foot Asleep:  Addison experienced the foot-asleep feeling for the first time this week.  How do you explain to your child this experience?  Addison had her foot under her bottom while she sat on a chair and upon getting up, she freaked out, bigtime!!  Shane tried getting her to straighten out her leg and get the blood moving, but Addison curled her legs up under her and cried until the feeling finally came back.  A very traumatizing experience!! :(

All about Cooper

First 4th of July:  This was Cooper's first Independence Day!  He actually did really well with the fireworks.  On July 4th, we watched from my mom's pool as several area resorts set of their displays.  because of the distance, we didn't have to worry about the loud bangs/booms associated with fireworks so Cooper did really well.  When we set off a display at Uncle Dillon's house, Cooper was passed out and slept through the entire thing!!

Future thumb/finger sucker:  I know we've posted before about Cooper's love for sucking on his fist, wrists, and fingers.  It seems like his love for those extremities only increases as the weeks go by.  There are times Coop wants nothing to do with his paci and would much rather his fist.  The good news is that he can pacify himself with this habit, the bad news is that it may be difficult to break!!  I'm hoping that his addiction comes from teething and the constant need to soothe his gums, but we shall see!

Sitting up:  Coop does really well when we prop him up with pillows and has recently showed signs of trying to sit up on his own.  If we hold his hands, he will pull against us to get himself up.  I can't say he's quite ready to sit in the middle of a room without support, but he's definitely getting there.

Weekly Update - Rolling Over!!

Week of June 22, 2012

Addie's weekly Photo

Cooper's Weekly Photo

The summer has been in full swing for a while now, but it wasn't until recently that we were able to venture into swimming.  Nana has a really nice swimming area at her condo and we decided to take advantage this week.  Both Addison and Cooper seem to love the water.  Addie will push away at us while we hold her in the pool, thinking she can swim on her own.  We have to keep a pretty good hold on her so she doesn't get away since she can't quite keep herself afloat yet (even with floaties).  Cooper is very quiet and calm when we take him in the pool and seems to just look around, taking in his surroundings.  I haven't taken many pictures of them in the pool, but will take more in the coming weeks.

All about Addie:

Pooping Habits:  Addison, like many toddlers will retreat to a quiet part of the house to poop.  I don't know why I find it so amusing, but it's a daily means for laughter.  Sometimes, if there isn't a quiet room and she has to go bad enough, Addie will just plop down on the living room floor and ignore the fact that she has an audience.  This week, we were at Nana's and instead of finding her quiet place, she resorted to burying her head in a toy bin with her feet firmly planted on the ground.  I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my life alongside my mom as we watched/listened to her.....well....poop!! HA  I've included a picture below (don't worry, it doesn't show anything gruesome).

Oh so many words:  Every day we learn a new word in our house.  Wether she's learning from TV or us, she's always absorbing something new.  There doesn't seem to be a word she won't try to say if we ask her to.

Ears:  We're on our 7th ear infection this week.  A doctors appointment to our pediatrician confirmed that our next visit will be to an ENT to talk about tubes.  Keeping our fingers crossed that these doctors visits will be eliminated once her ears are fixed!!

All about Cooper:

Rolling over:  While at Nana's place, Cooper rolled over for the first time this week!  On June 19th at around noon, mommy received a text while running errands that Cooper was on his tummy when he decided to make the big roll-over.  Nana was able to get it on video too! Soo exciting! :)

Oatmeal/Cereal in bottle:  Following the advise of some relatives/friends, I put oatmeal/cereal in Cooper's bottle a few times recently week.  Some theory's were that it would reduce the acid reflux because it would thicken his milk, other theory's were that he would sleep longer because his belly would stay full.  Our luck would have it, he spit up more and slept less.  I'm guessing he just isn't ready for the solids, but thanks for the ideas and advise. ;)
