Weekly Update - Addie turns TWO!!

Week of May 11, 2012

All about Addie

Birthday Bliss:  Addie's birthday was on Monday (7th) but we had her party on Saturday (5th).  Mommy and Daddy had been planning for weeks and settled on a Mickey Mouse theme.  The party was a hit and everyone had such a blast!  We had a big turnout with several of Addie's friends/cousins.

2 Year Checkup:  We had Addie's 2 year checkup this week and everything is looking good.  She's getting over an ear infection and a slight case of bronchitis, but doc said she's looking great otherwise.  Addison did so well at this checkup!  Usually we can't even get Addie to cooperate with the doctor using a stethoscope or looking in her ears, let alone shots!  Luckily, we didn't have shots at this appointment though :)  But Addison was unusually cooperative at this appointment and didn't struggle or fight off the nurses/doctor.  There's a first time for everything!

Gymnastics: Addie's first gymnastics session was today! We signed up at our local YMCA recently since they have a toddler tumblers section and figured it would be a fun way to get Addie around more kids her age. They must have combined the other age groups with Addie's because there were more "big kids" in her class than toddlers. In fact, Addie was the only two year old amongst three, four, five, six, and seven year olds!!! The class is supposed to be for 2 and 3 year olds only!! Hmmm Overall, Addie did well for her first visit. She tried most of the exercises that the instructor showed us and lasted almost the whole session without a tantrum. I'm hoping that the repetition will help Addison warm up more. She seemed to enjoy herself but there were distractions and of course I'm sure she was a bit intimidated by the "big kids". We will be taking it one day at a time :)

"Grandpa":  We have lots of grandpas in our lives which we LOVE!  The only bad thing is that Addie seems to think that any "old" guy is called "grandpa".  We can be in a store, driving, or just about anywhere and she will say "hi gampa" or "hi pawpaw".  Although it's cute and she seems to melt a few hearts when she does it to random "old" men, hopefully she can distinguish between HER grandpa's and just old guys :) LOL

Repeat after me:  Addison repeats everything!!  I've posted about this before but it's more common for her to repeat things we're saying than not repeat them.  For example, pet names.... Addie will talk to Cooper and say "hey buddy" or "hey lil-man".  She has also started saying "babe" (a pet name I use for Shane).  Addison calls Shane "Shane" sometimes and me "tin-tin" (a name the cousins call me).  It's hard not to smile or laugh when she does it, but I try to avoid drawing too much attention so she doesn't begin using it for extra attention ;)

All about Cooper

2 Month Checkup:  We had Cooper's 2 month checkup this week (combined with Addie's 2-year checkup).  Poor Coop has had such a hard time lately between Colic (will hopefully start to fade in the next two months), Acid Reflux (on Prevacid to help control), Poop Problems (apparently constipation is a side effect of the Prevacid), Gassiness (related to the Constipation and irritability), and apparently now TEETHING!  The doctor noticed some pretty significant swelling on his gums indicating that he is at the start of the teething process.  Aside from these minor setbacks in Cooper's health, he's doing great as far as weight gain, growth and development.  Fingers crossed all of these "issues" fade soon!

Extra Sleep:  This week there were three nights that Cooper slept more than 3 hours!  It may not seem like much to some people but we're not used to him sleeping long hours at night.  Generally we get Cooper sleeping in 2-3 hour increments.  One of the nights we actually got 6 hours of sleep from him!!! WOW!!

LOL:  Literally, Laughing Out Loud!!!  This week we saw Cooper laugh out loud for the first time.  We've heard his gasp laugh several times but this was a REAL "belly laugh".  We are seeing a sweet side of Cooper more than ever (indicating that the acid reflux medicine might be helping him heal and feel better).

New Car Seat:  Cooper does NOT like being put in his infant seat in the car.  At the advice of some friends and family, we are trying out a different seat.  My cousin happened to be giving away one of her daughters.  Coop seems to have much more room in the new seat and seems a bit happier but still cries quite a bit.  As the acid reflux, colic, and bowl problems start to fade, hopefully we will start to see a much happier baby in the car! :)

Weekly Update - Winking

Week of May 4, 2012

Addie's Weekly Photo

Cooper's Weekly Photo (8 Weeks)

All about Addie

Winking - Mommy winks at Addie often and this week, she has decided to try it out.  It's absolutely ADORABLE when she does it because wether or not her eye closes, she will move her jaw left to right trying to wink each eye!  The neat thing is that she can actually wink each eye!

Dipping - Uncle Dillon taught Addie this a while ago but she never really kept up with it until this week.  All of the sudden, Addison asks to dip everything!!  We were eating noodles one night and she wanted to dip them in ketchup!!  It's difficult to complain about this new habit though because it gets her to eat her food :)

Garbage - Addie loves to help out, especially when it comes to throwing things away.  Lately though, I've been finding things in the garbage that aren't necessarily "garbage".... socks, toys, sippy cups, etc.  Altough mommy gets frustrated upon finding foreign objects in the trash, it's something I laugh about daily!!  A few times, we've found sippy cups and toys in our hamper too....lets hope mommy is able to catch these things before they end up in the washer! LOL

All about Cooper

Jumparoo - We introduced this to Addie when she was around 3 months old but tried it out earlier with Cooper because we were running out of ideas for keeping him entertained during his "fits".  It seems like he loves the jumper as much as Addie did!  Of course he can't kick the ground and really bounce yet, but he loves to look at the lights and it keeps him upright so his acid reflux doesn't act up. WIN! :)

Car Seat Terror:  I've never known a child to scream and carry on as much as Cooper does when it comes to the car seat.  It's like the moment we put his arms through the harness, he begins to freak out!!  In addition to hating the straps, it seems like being in the car in general is upsetting to him.  I think Coop gets really gassy being strapped in and restrained in the seat because even after we take him out, he continues to be fussy and it takes a while to calm him down.

Weekly Update - Meds working?

Week of April 27, 2012

All about Addie

Bugs -  I told Addie that I needed to wipe the boogers out of her nose and she looked at me funny and said "bugs".... Now, every time I wipe her nose, she says "mama-bugs"! LOL

Nose - Addison has a new fascination with her nose.  For now, she is only putting her finger in it, but it seems like that finger is ALWAYS in her nose!  I've read/heard that it's best not to bug kids too much about bad habits because they are more likely to keep them up, the more attention they receive so I've been careful about drawing too much attention to it.... it's cute and frustrating at the same time! LOL

All about Cooper

Meds - Slowly but surely, it seems like the new dose (1/2 pill a.m. and 1/2 p.m.) of Prevacid, is working.  I can't say Cooper is anywhere near 100%, but it's nice that we can at least pacify him 50% of the time whereas before we could almost NEVER get him to calm down.  Lets hope things continue to improve. :)

Finger sucker - We started out using the paci that the hospital gave us and Coop did okay with it but didn't always want it.  Then, we blogged about how Coop made a quick transition to the same type of paci that Addie uses.  Now, it seems Coop is happy with just about anything in his mouth!!  When we can't find a paci, we use our finger and he seems just as happy.  We've found that Cooper even tries to sooth himself by sucking on the back of his fist, fingers, or whatever he can reach!
